How To Configure Only PING Service For The Host in NConf

In the previous article, we installed NConf application to manage the hosts in Nagios. But sometimes we just want to monitor the host whether the host is on or not and we need not monitor other services on the host. In short, we only want PING service only and do not require other services for the host. By default, NConf application does not provide as we want and we must configure it so we can monitor the host whether the host is on or off.

Go to Advanced Items and click Add in Host templates section. I added a new item called generic-internet like this:
ping nconf
Click Submit and click Generate Nagios config. Still, click Add in Host presets and I added a new item called generic-ping like this:

Click Submit and click Generate Nagios config. Next, we go to Additional Items and click Add in OS section. I added a new item called Internet like this:

Click Submit and click Generate Nagios config.
In the server, type the command below to copy the images:

Next, we go to Basic Items and click Add in Hostgroups section. I added a new item called ping-host like this:

Click Submit and click Generate Nagios config. Still, add click in Host section. Now we will create the host we want to monitor. I create Test Ping like this:

Click Submit and click Generate Nagios config. After that, go to Nagios Application and We must wait until Nagios in Hosts item will appear like this:

In Services item, there is display like this:
